Arising from a report of the Audit Team Leader, the Community Policy Development Group had recommended that the Single Equality Scheme together with the Equality Objective for 2017-18 be approved.

Arising from a report of the Audit Team Leader, the Community Policy Development Group had recommended that the Single Equality Scheme together with the Equality Objective for 2017-18 be approved.

The Cabinet Member for Community Well-Being outlined the contents of the report reminding those present of the Council’s statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010 where the local authority had a duty to have due regard to:

·         Eliminating discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Act

·         Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it; and

·         Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.

He highlighted the equality information available within the report and the appendices.

RESOLVED that the recommendations of the Policy Development Group be approved.

To remind Members of the Council’s statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010, and to seek members’ approval for the revised Single Equality Scheme and Equality Objective.

The Group had before it a report * from the Audit Team Leader reminding it of the  Council’s statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010, and to seek Members’ approval for the revised Single Equality Scheme and Equality Objective.

The officer outlined the contents of the report, explaining that only minor changes, such as the updating of job titles, had been made.

A Member Briefing had been put in place for 16^th May in order to raise awareness.

It was RECOMMENDED that Cabinet that:

The Single Equality Scheme together with the Equality Objective be approved for 2017-18.
